I survived our wedding reception, it was a lots of fun

The previous day I cooked all day so the guests can have my authentic Hungarian Goulash soup.

We had to buy tons of meat for getting the best taste. We filled a whole van with all the ingredients of the party that was the biggest shopping in my life.
After working so hard it looked the bride will greet the guests with black eyes... so I went to bed extra early and tried to relax.
Good things receptions starts in the afternoon.
We had childhood pictures on a table so I was so busy looking for them I could not even dress I was running in bathrobe like I have nothing to do today.
Just on the same day we recognized it was snowing in the mountains which gave an excellent view of the fall forest with snow on the peaks.
As we left the house it started to snow unbelievable, September 16th and it is snowing.

One of my sweet sister-in-laws offered to create a wonder from my messy hair and she did it, although if she knew how much hair I have she would ordered us to be there 2 hours before projected time.

My poor husband was a herro... waiting so long for a woman that is not easy. :)))))))))))

Theoritically the reception started at 5, we arrived after 5.30 and were afraid we will miss our own reception but the guests were not early at all. We only had 1 person arriving exact military time.

The house was beautifully dress in blue and peach. It took me 2 weeks to find the best dress which was nevertheless blue... I found it 2 days before the reception, I was all nervous about it.

It was around 6.30 when people started to show up, giving me enough time to dress. Shortly after at least 50 people was around me, I tried to find familiar faces in the crowd it was a big trial for me.
And nothing goes without surprises here and there, our wedding cake was not done in time so the company offered a different one fast and promised to get ready with the original one, we hot the white carrot cake for free because of their mistake. This is how it happened we had 2 huge cakes and noone mind it at the end. Both of them was gone by the end of our party.

We got an excellent help when we got to opening the present for me it was like a biggest Xmas ever... we had presents all around us, one of the siblings helped us to administer all the gifts we got. Thanks for everyone's support and surprises.

We were registered at Target and John put a red microwave into pour list, he did not think he is going to get it but he fell in love with the color. He was the most surprised to see that he got it :))
Most of the presents will help my life in the kitchen, thanks again and again.

My lucky son also got a surprise too, he was the happiest from all.

The soup and all the other snack were so popular that the salad bar was not too much visited and we were left with tons of lettuce and stuff.

Stories from September 2006

It took me only 1 week and I was done with the driving school and I needed to start the college right after. The only problem is the transportation... I could not go to have my driving practice beofre I got my Social Security number which can take up to 2 months. Luckily my mother-in-law who is angel full-time, helps me to deliver and transport home every day. I really appreciate her help but I know it will be a lot better for her if she can stop babysitting me.
I just dont understand why do I need SSN for practising... and how can international babysitters or students get licence without SSN... never mind...

See that huuuge truck here, the property of my generous brother-in-law, he wanted me to drive his truck for a little while to feel the vehicle. This was the very first vehicle I ever drove... and I started right with a tank size truck. I was introduced to the automatic shift stick, not too much brain work there D is drive P is Parking. :)))))

John volunteered to come with me, first I managed to step hard on the accelerator so he was terrified by default. Then I tried to stop as fast as I can... he almost landed on the window.
Trying all the extremities I slowly drove back to the house and we survived the adventure.
5 times out of 5 days we watched terrifying videos about drunk driving and accidents so the 15-17 years old students would stop thinking... but they only get a temporary licence till they are 21, but be aware people of Salt Lake City I will get my licence right away ....

I really enjoy being a student again, it is not easy as English is not my mother tongue but Im not completely lost. I got lucky and I had the loveliest Maths teacher in the world ;) He is funny and not stressing anyone out, just wants u to realize Maths is fun - hmmm yes for some - and with some work anyone get an A. Cheers!! ( Just for the record I did get the A.)
The reason I like this school system only those can fail who doesnt want to work and put some effort in it, any other people can easily pass. Althought it is a lot different than European system, I dont even remember to have that much homework in my high school than here but it gives you valuable points for the final grade. The other huge difference is the freedom of creating your own schedule, noone can even dream about that in Hungary.
The territory of the school is very pleasant, lot of grassy areas and places to study...
as much as I can tell it is not awkward to sit down and study, noone will cast you out for some studying. The weather is lovely so far and if u are tired u can take a sweet nap on the grass or anywhere you like it. It is not a public crime :)))) I saw many students sleep on the floor in one of the aisles of the buildings while others where passing through there.
The only crucial problem is to find a parking place in the morning.
I dont have friends so far, everyone keeps a certain distance from each others. This really surprised me, most of my American friends were extremely friendly in Hungary, probably this is a different culture here in Utah.
There are not too much international students but they can have exceptional treatment in some cases, extra help everywhere.

None of my teachers could tell Magdolna so I was mercyful everyone can call me Maggie. ) just like my family)
They were so happy about that most of them immediately remembered my name.
So far the teacher are cool, none of them want to be called Professor or Sir or any other than their first name.
Our boxes finally arrived so I got my herbs and stuff and I could start to cook รก la Hungarian, I missed it a lot. Everyone is overwhelmingly happy about it excepta picky one.
2nd week of September is the date of our reception party, we sent out 100 invitation so that
is at least 100 people..who will actually show up.
I decided Im going show what a Hungariand wedding reception perty menu would look like. I cooked Goulash soup for at least 100 person and fixed other delicious snacks. Sounds good, huh? Are you getting hungry yet?

Many people were asking me how the family was, I could not answer all but the blog is the best place to reply all at once. The family is extra nice still. :))) If it were on my mother-in-law she would let us live with her forever, Zsolti hugged her the very first moment and gained her heart and I love to cook and she lives how I cook so she has a private cook now. It is the biggest pleasure to cook for someone who likes it.

I got a brand new computer and the internet connection is all set, nothing can stop me from being online and communicative.

Welcome on my English blog

Hi All,

It took me a long time but now Im right on to create the English version of my blog.
I moved to the US in Aug 1st 2006 , yes exactly 1 year ago so u can see how long time it took me to start the English version of my blog... sorry for that... :)))) better late than never hope u will enjoy all of my stories.

This is how it started...From August 2006

I can report I survived a 25 hour long trip from Hungary to Salt Lake City the capital of Utah state... heck I never thought this city is soooo far away from my homecountry.
Although I was frightened with heat and desert climate it is not so bad so far...
It took 3 weeks for our boxes to arrive with all of my beloved books and stuff so finally I could feel like I moved here.
There were so many challanging things... first thing we got to know as we arrived to the airport that the Italian airline lost our baggages after the first change of flight. We started our life here fresh with 1 set of clothes.
My son faced with the biggest challange from all. He did not speak a word of English when we arrived. We tried not to worry about that, kids are like sponges and learn so fast... he surprised us as it took only 2 months for him to speak English and 3 or 4 more month to master it with perfect fluency. We are really proud of him.

We had to spend our very first day with shopping and Zsolti got lucky, he got a bicycle besides the clothes.
I couldnt complain within 3 days I got a brand new bike too, the best bike I ve ever had and the most comfortable too.
Now we were all set to discover the hilles arounds us. I never recognized how steep are they until I tried to bike up on one :)))

My very first positive experience from a shop, I thought I need to choose the biggest size in the shop and I grabbed one... it was almost twice as big as I need... I knew it right aways I will love this place... even after a more rational decision I needed to change 4 times so I got a 4 size smaller jeans as we would think. In Hungary I would needed to go to 4 different shop so they would tell me they dont have anything in my size at all.
Second "shocking' experience I have a size 42 shoes which is around size 9-10 in American measures and I had a hard time to find show for myself at home... here I even saw size 11, 12 too... maybe finally I can wear female shoes instead of male boots.

First very important project: learning to drive. It is amazing that I was the only person in the room who was actually older than 16 years old.Our instructor was sweet he said I can be about 18. :))))) I never knew I look10 years younger. We had to do observation after the classes and I made a mistake I answered a 16 years old how old I am ... they were truly shocked how really very very old I am...

Gastronomical first shock, we got a surprise cake from an unidentified relative , it was a cake with nut filling and looked excellent and I tasted it and it was covered with a thing called icing and it was salty .... brooooooooaaaaaaffff....what a shame to kill a cake with that.

Second gastronomical shock, we bought a fancy cake for Zsolti for his 6th birthday 3 days after we arrived, and it looked just awesome... but it actually tasted so bad that even the kids would not eat it....
